Screen Magician Browser Extension

The short version

Screen Magician is offline by construction. It makes no network requests at all — no CDN, no web fonts, no analytics, no crash reporting. Captures, annotations, history, and settings never leave your browser profile, and there is nothing to sign in to.

Information the extension accesses

When you invoke it, Screen Magician captures an image of the visible viewport of the tab you used it on — a picture of what is on screen, not the page's DOM. It also reads that tab's URL and title, which label the capture and power history filtering. Images you drop or paste into the view are read so they can join the set.

This access exists only to perform the capture, comparison, annotation, and export actions you request. Nothing is read from a page you have not invoked the extension on.

Permissions

There are five permissions, all warning-free, which is why installing shows no prompt:

• activeTab — screenshot the tab you invoked the extension on.
• clipboardWrite — put the rendered image on your clipboard.
• downloads — write exported files without a Save dialog.
• contextMenus — the right-click capture and annotate items, and the toolbar menu.
• sidePanel — show the comparison view in Chrome's side panel.

There is no host_permissions, no content script, and no web_accessible_resources. One host permission is optional: the panel's Allow any tab button can let the extension screenshot a tab without being invoked on it first. It is requested by that button and nowhere else, and declining keeps everything else exactly as it is.

Local storage and retention

Captures, annotations, and settings live in the extension's own IndexedDB in your browser profile — chrome.storage.sync is not used, so not even your settings travel between your devices. History keeps the most recent captures (100 by default, up to 200), and you can erase the whole history or reset the captures at any time from the view. Exporting never clears anything, and uninstalling the extension removes its locally stored data.

What never happens

No screenshot, annotation, or setting is uploaded — there is no server to receive one. No telemetry: no analytics, no crash reporting, no usage pings. No account: sign-in services are not used. No syncing. The extension loads nothing from a remote host; the two bundled annotation fonts ship inside the package precisely so picking a font makes no network request.

Exports and your clipboard

Exports are files you asked for: WebP images written to your Downloads folder or to a folder you choose, or a render placed on your clipboard. Copy for AI places the rendered image and a JSON description of your annotations on the clipboard, for you to paste into any tool — what a model provider does with it is governed by that tool's own policy.

One thing is outside the extension's control: if the save folder you choose is synced by your operating system — iCloud Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive — your OS will replicate the exported file. That is your OS copying a file you asked for, not the extension sending anything anywhere.

Data sharing and sale

DesignForever does not sell or rent information handled by Screen Magician, and the extension does not transfer captures or settings to DesignForever servers. Information reaches another service only when you direct an export or copy to one, or when disclosure is required by law.

Children's privacy

Screen Magician is a general productivity tool and is not directed to children under 13. DesignForever does not knowingly collect children's personal information through the extension.

This policy may be updated when the extension's features or legal requirements change. The date above identifies the latest version.
